This lecture by Dr. Thi Thu Giang Luu (University of Cologne) first provides a global perspective on the challenges and opportunities of sustainable agrifood systems transformation. It then examines a study from Vietnam, where a short food supply chain was established to connect a farmer cooperative with factory workers through the provision of certified vegetables.

This context-specific initiative aimed to improve access to safe food within Hanoi’s agrifood system. The case illustrates the opportunities, trade-offs and practical challenges involved in translating broader ambitions for sustainable agrifood systems into local practice.

The lecture is part of the lecture series “Global Food Security in the Context of Climate Change—Pathways to a Sustainable Future,” which addresses major issues for the future at the intersection of global food security, climate change, and sustainability.
