The Master Degree Culture and Environment in Africa is a two-year, English-medium, interdisciplinary degree focusing on the archaeological, historical and contemporary political ecology of the African continent. Particular attention is given to skills, methods and knowledge in interdisciplinary African human-environment studies. The degree will provide students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds with a comprehensive understanding of the complex interrelationships between human agency, sociocultural dynamics and geo-biophysical processes.

Programme provides the basic education in the various disciplines to enable specialists from all disciplines to broaden their set of skills and look beyond their own specialization. Content wise, the study program is structured on a modular basis. Water resources, indispensable basis for development, food, and health, become ever scarcer and more polluted. The concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) offers solutions to the water crisis in linking water to other vital resources and viewing the whole water cycle together with human interventions as the basis for sustainable water management. The profile of the Master’s program is application-oriented. The aim is, besides providing the participants with an overview on the water sector in general, to educate experts in the field of Integrated Water Resources Management.

The need for a sustainable energy supply is becoming more important with declining fossil energy resources, environmental pollution and climate change. The Master’s program in Renewable Energy Management will contribute to the promotion of renewable energy sources in countries, especially developing countries, in tropics and subtropics via a holistic renewable energy management concept. The profile of the Master’s program is application-oriented. Integrated Water Resources Management with focus on the Middle East and Northern African Region (Master of Science)

Water resources, indispensable basis for development, food supply, and health, become ever scarcer and more polluted. The concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) offers solutions to the water crisis in linking water to other vital resources. For bilateral projects between Germany and countries in the Middle East and Northern African (MENA) region, there is a need for experts being familiar with the culture, language and politics of both sides and are skilled in intercultural communication. The Master’s program has the objective to form such experts. There is an obligatory semester exchange at the German Jordanian University. Master thesis must be written with a thematic focus on a MENA region under joint supervision of both university partners.
