The Master Degree Culture and Environment in Africa is a two-year, English-medium, interdisciplinary degree focusing on the archaeological, historical and contemporary political ecology of the African continent. Particular attention is given to skills, methods and knowledge in interdisciplinary African human-environment studies. The degree will provide students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds with a comprehensive understanding of the complex interrelationships between human agency, sociocultural dynamics and geo-biophysical processes.

International Master of Environmental Sciences

Programme provides the basic education in the various disciplines to enable specialists from all disciplines to broaden their set of skills and look beyond their own specialization. Content wise, the study program is structured on a modular basis. The modules include: Atmosphere, Biosphere, Geosphere, Hydrosphere, Environmental technologies, Environmental Education, Environmental Medicine, Environmental law, Environmental Policy and Governance and Environmental Sociology.

Environment and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics

While the Latin American and Caribbean Countries (LAC) experiences a strong economic development, concerns regarding environmental degradation and contamination are arising. The region faces serious challenges such as population growth, urbanization, industrialization, climate change and natural disasters, which require efficient environmental policies and programmes that promote the sustainable management of natural resources.

4 semester (full-time) | 1st and 2nd semester in San Luis Potosí, Mexico | 3rd semester in Cologne, Germany | 4th semester for field research in Latin America or Germany and the elaboration of the master thesis | Courses are taught in English and Spanish | Students pay fees in both Universities; approx. 220 Euro per semester in Germany and 350 Euro per Semester in Mexico (the semester fee of Germany includes the costs of public transportation inside the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen)
